Safe together and your role as manager

Safe Together is about two topics; physical safety and social safety. You have an important role to play in both.
What precisely do we expect from you?

Did you know that…

  • your behavior has a lot of influence on the group?
  • if you pay attention to safe behavior, this type of behavior will grow?
  • it is important that you as a manager are aware of the risks and safety aspects within the organization?

How do you do this?

  • Compliment on safe behavior.
  • Talk to colleagues if you see unsafe behavior.
  • Get into a good conversation if you receive signals of bullying and gossipy behavior.

For example:

  • About working well with someone
  • About how someone does his or her work safely
  • About how someone uses his personal protection kit
  • About what someone can do or knows
  • About how someone handles the situation he or she is in

Making a compliment does not have to be that difficult. A few tips:

  • Ensure that it is clear what the compliment is about
  • Ensure that the compliment is about the behavior of the person him or herself
  • Only make compliments when you really mean it
  • Don’t expect a compliment back

Some examples:

  • That’s good that you are taking the time to introduce this new colleague to his work. I can see that you find helping colleagues important.
  • Good that you spoke to your colleague when you saw that he was not working completely safely. Did you find this stimulating?
  • Good that you have an eye for the accessibility of fire extinguishers in the office and talk to your colleagues about it. It helps that together we feel responsibility for such things.
