Interview: talking to Vera Theunissen

Just to introduce myself…

In each new edition of De Veer we would like to introduce one or two members of the program office. The program office is a group of colleagues who help give form to the new program aimed at long-term employability. Why exactly do they find long-term employability important and what drives them? In this edition we talk to Vera Theunissen.

How long have you been working for Marel?
At the beginning of this year I started at Marel as an intern in the HR department. This internship is part of my Master’s degree, Work, Organization and Health Psychology at the Radboud University in Nijmegen.

Why did you join the Marel Healthy Together program office?
For my thesis, I did some research within Marel on long-term employability and which factors are involved. I then quickly chose to take part in the long-term employability program office.

How do you yourself remain employable long term?
As an intern, my development is of course central. I try to learn something new every day and to make use of everything I read, hear and see during my internship. In my private life, I work on my long-term employability by, for example, playing volleyball, a safety valve, pure relaxation and really healthy at the same time.

Which of the four themes is the most important for you (at this moment)?  Why?
At this moment development is the most important. During my training I have of course learned a lot but how do I now put it into practice? Do theory and practice match up? Often they don’t. What should you do in this situation? My goal at the moment is to develop my own way of working which fits my level of competence.

What do you think of the new Marel program focused on long-term employability?
In my opinion, the best about the new program is that we are committing ourselves with people from various parts of the organization to the wellbeing of our colleagues; that we are striving for am all-embracing program that makes sense for everyone within Marel.
